NOTICE OF ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

NOTICE OF NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Dear Members:

NOTICE OF NOMINATION

You are hereby notified that nominations and election of Officers for a three (3) year term for President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, six (6) Vice Presidents and three (3) for the Board of Audit have been scheduled.

Present term expires for all Officers on December 31, 2024.

As constitutionally provided and in agreement with applicable law, rules, and procedures for nominations and election have been adopted by our Local Union’s Executive Board.

Members may file with the Secretary-Treasurer signed letters (forms provided) addressed to the election general chairperson nominating themselves or eligible members for specific offices. Nominating letters must be received at the Local Union Office between July 15, 2024 and July 26, 2024, 8 am thru 4 pm, Monday thru Friday.  The Election Committee Chairperson and/or Secretary Treasurer shall determine the eligibility of each member nominated. The general chairperson and/or Secretary Treasurer shall notify immediately any member who is declared ineligible. The Local Union Secretary-Treasurer will post the names of the nominees and the Office to which such nominee has been nominated, in the Local Union Office, when such nominations are received.

In accordance with these rules and procedures, you are hereby advised as follows:

The offices to be filled by nomination and election are:

Three (3) members to serve on the Board of Audit

Section 1.  Eligibility for Office Qualifications

(a)  An active member in the Local Union, who has been an active member in the Local Union, or who had been a member of another organization merged with the Local union, for a continuous aggregate of at least 12 months immediately preceding the month in which nominations are held, or;

(b)  An active member in the Local Union who has been an active member in the International Union continuously for at least 24 months immediately preceding the month in which nominations are held.

Any member satisfying the eligibility requirements of this Section must maintain continuous active membership in the Local Union to remain eligible to run for or hold elected office.

Section 2.   Eligibility to hold only one Office.

No member may run for more than one office in any election and no member may hold more than one elected office at any one time.  The regular employees of the Local Union shall not constitute more than 50 percent of the membership of the Local Union Executive Board.

Section 3.  Any member eligible to hold office may be nominated only by means of a nominating petition addressed to the Chairman of the Election Committee in either of the following terms:

  • A nominating petition filed by another member dated and in written form including:
  1. The name and address in hand printed or typewritten form of the good standing member making the nomination;
  2. The name and address in hand printed or typewritten form of the eligible member to be nominated.
  3. The name in hand printed or typewritten form of the office for which nomination is made; and
  4. The signature of the member making the nomination and the signature of the nominated member accepting the nomination.
  • A nominating petition filed by a member nominating himself or herself dated and in written form including:
  1. The name and address in hand printed or typewritten form of the eligible member nominating himself or herself; and
  2. The name in hand printed or typewritten form of the office sought; and
  3. The signature of the eligible member nominating himself or herself; and such petition to be valid must be mailed by Certified Mail addressed to the “Chairman of the Election Committee” at the Local 88 Office, 5730 Elizabeth Ave., St. Louis, Missouri 63110, or delivered to the Secretary-Treasurer, or his designee, at the Local 88 Office for receipt within business hours during the period of July 15, 2024, to July 26, 2024, inclusive.  The business hours of Local 88 during said period for the purpose shall be 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.  The forms for the nominating petition are available at the Local 88 Office.

Section 4.  Nominations shall be conducted as follows:

Members may file with the Secretary-Treasurer signed letters addressed to the election general chairperson nominating themselves or eligible members for specific offices. Nominating letters must be received at the Local Union Office between 8 am July 15, 2024 and 4 pm July 26, 2024.  The election committee, immediately after 4 pm, July 26, 2024, shall determine the eligibility of each member nominated.  The Local Union Secretary-Treasurer will post the names of the nominees and the Office to which such nominees have been nominated, in the Local Union Office, when such nominations are received. The general chairperson shall notify, in person or in writing, any member who is declared ineligible. The election committee shall establish reasonable procedures for determining promptly (1) whether a member who has been nominated by another member accepts the nomination; and (2) if a member has been nominated to more than one office, which nomination he or she accepts.
